Black Bear Fine Arts Studio - Kathy Reed, Faculty

Kathyreedlogo_2 Say “Scherenschnitte” three times fast!  Kathy’s steady hand and attention to detail have led to the creation of her Schrenschnitte artwork – an old German-style of papercutting.  Her drawing skills, sensitivity to pattern and design are apparent in her intricate and original Scherenschnitte.

When Kathy lived and taught in Asia and Europe, she discovered the French dyes, serti-resist, and shibbori techniques for her washable silks.  Paper cut arts offer multi-cultural traditions and exciting contemporary directions such as pop-ups, movable books, and altered books.

Kathy Reed guides students of all ages in the creation of individual expressions or interdisciplinary group projects. Since retiring from Department of Defense schools overseas as an art teacher, Reed exhibits her work widely and serves on the boards of the Guild of American Papercutters and Somerset’s Laurel Arts Center. She is a graduate of Gettysburg College and Michigan State University.
