Wagner Memories - Tish Rush '75

Tishrushsrpic Tish lived in the Philippines longer than most - from 1968 through her graduation in 1975. She now lives in San Antonio and after being married for 17 years, is now a single mom of two teenage boys. One son wants to be a rock star and the other wants to be a professional sports figure - either athlete or ESPN commentator. We'll check back with her at the DC reunion and see how those plans are coming along. Tish celebrates her birthday this Saturday (April 26), so join me in wishing her a very happy birthday and check out her Wagner Memories....

What was your first impression of Clark and Wagner? I was too tired from jet lag. My Dad worked at the MAC terminal and was able to drive onto the tarmac and pick all 8 of us in my family -my Mom and sisters and brother-- up right from the plane. Thought that was cool...

What surprised you the most about the Philippines? What did you like best about living there? I lived there for so long--I liked ALL of it except the bugs.

Sonia3 Did you really miss anything from the States and if so, what? I was only 9 when we left the states so didn't miss much, except maybe living closer to the beach in California.

Who were your good buddies? I had so many--Melinda Lucas, Lacey O'Neil, Kay Wilson, Sonia Taylor, Cheryl Saylor, Kris Driscoll, Peggy Wertel, Andi Garrow, Linda Barbieri, Debbie Williamson, Lena Davis, Gaye Perkins, Kitty Calhoun, the girls from all the softball teams I played on, the football cheerleaders....how much time do I have? Can't name ALL of 'em!

Where did you hang out? Kelly Cafeteria, that place up on the hill can't remember the name of it with the jukebox, the Bamboo Bowl.

Who was your favorite teacher/class? Ms. McKeown, Mr. Schrupp

Did you have a part time job - what was it? Really wasn't possible to even babysit over there.

Did you have a crush on anyone? (We're all grown up now - it's okay to spill the beans!) Ooooooooooooh yeah...and that's all I'm saying

Have you become closer to a Wagnerite that you didn't know well in high school because of a reunion? Yes--Diane class of 69 and Val Smith class of 72

Do you think your experience living overseas made you a better person? Yes, I am a more tolerable, more patient person.

Happy Birthday to one of my "oldest" and dearest friends. I lub u! Sony

That place on the Hill with the jukebox was La Pacita, a Run-in-Chef disguised as a taco bell. We bought most of our beer there. I remember the night before you left you were there bawling over the juke box to songs like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Hello it's Me".

Funny how we remember stuff like that.
